Have written 2 previous reviews for Monsoon I didn't think I would be writing another one. Have just come back from Kenya and visited Monsoon 5 times over a 3 week period. Food and setting as good as ever. Service and atmosphere has improved. This is down to the wonderful owners Attillio and Aziza and the wonderful staff. Special mention to their daughter Nahyu and Agnes, the lovely waitress. Compared to a lot of local Restaurants Monsoon is excellent value for money. In general wine in Kenya is expensive but not here. Unfortunately, due to the reviews and recommendations on Trip Advisor, the place has become extremely popular (deservedly so) and I would recommend that if you wish to go phone first and book as the it is now often full, especially at weekends. See you in a few months Attillio - save my table. Can't wait to get back for the Lobster, Jumbo Prawns, Peppered Steak and the not to be missed Tiramasu.

Sea food platter was awsome!

We found the resturant on Trip advisor and did what someone recommended and went there early in our holiday and after going once you just have to go back!. Ring them and book in advance and get them to book you a taxi, it cost 500Ksh one way from Bamburi Beach. If you like sunbathing get there early and enjoy the beach before eating, you're likely to have the whole beach to yourself. The second visit we got there at 11am and spent 3hrs on beach before lunch. If they are busy then service can be very slow but they have lots of chilled wine and its a great place to slow down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Food was AMAZING, best we had during our trip, and very well priced. We had the sea food platter for 2 one day and it could have fed a family of 6!! I think it was the best seafood I have ever had and we have been to quite a few countries. The owner and his wife were very friendly and we had some amazing discussions.. topped off with some shots of grappa!

The restaurant is set on a tranquil beach. It?s a fairytale location as you head through old mystical ruins. It cannot be found except by those who already know its there The charm of it is that its set way off the beaten track. If you?re a similar person to ourselves where by you don?t want to spend your whole holiday in an all inclusive resort I can highly recommend a lazy Sunday afternoon/ evening there. If like myself you want to venture out but not massively confident in a country like Kenya. I would call the owner Aziza and ask her to arrange a pick up taxi. They don?t take advantage of tourists. To put it in perspective a taxi from: Voyager taxis = 4400KES Taxi Outside voyager = 3000KES Aziza?s contact = 1500KES. I recommend doing this early on in the holiday for two reasons. 1: you then have a fairly priced taxi driver for the remainder of your trip 2: You have more of a chance to go back again and again They don?t pretend to offer a free shuttle or taxi unlike the others which never actually work out free because it?s hidden in your bill as is the commission to the hotel for booking etc. None of this goes on here. The restaurant is run by a very generous unassuming family. They operate differently to most restaurants in as much as it is more like going round to your friends for dinner. You are wined and dinned and generally made to feel very welcome and at home. As if you have known them for ever. For example our first visit we arrived everyone in the restaurant was aware that we were honeymooners. We had a special table decorated with flowers. They seemed very proud and excited that we had chosen to eat there on our honeymoon. In fact Atillio attempted to ply us with Complimentary oysters. A known aphrodisiac I am ashamed to admit I don?t actually like seafood. Attilio teased me chronically about this. Once they knew we were coming back for a second visit they had ordered me in a T Bone steak especially for me. Imagine that anywhere in the UK. We were given several offerings just to try such as homemade lemon sorbet mango ice cream all made by daughter Nahya. Clearly a natural talent for food learned through her mum Aziza. Another testimony to the place is its busy with regular ex pats who all boast that this is there favourite place to eat. The people we met congratulated us and wished us well and we spent time having drinks and making friends. If you do like seafood then you will be absolutely amazed. You will be watching someone tenderise an octopus on the beach and then the next minute it will be on the grill. You can?t get fresher than that. The restaurant boasts the world?s largest refrigerator (Indian Ocean) I saw people having the lobster and seafood platters and they looked out of this world. As I said visited twice and both times we arrived around lunchtime for a quick lunch both times we stumbled out of the restaurant gone 10:00pm. We only just got back to voyager in time for karaoke such a shame. As you spend the afternoon / evening drinking bottles of wine having multiple courses after dinner spirits and coffee you can?t help but be a little bit concerned about the tab. Our bill was next to nothing considering what we consumed. I was expecting it to be double what it was. This was a pleasant surprise because Kenya on the whole has become very efficient at shaking money out of tourists. They have a genuine night watchman a massai in a yellow coat. He is the real deal. Attilio has several anecdotes to share with you about him from umbrellas to sea turtles. He escorts you back to your taxi when the night ends. The legend of monsoons has been born. In summary I really can?t rate the place high enough the whole experience was unlike anything we have ever had. The hospitality we received was beyond anything that can be written down. Don?t take my word for it though. ***Atillio, Azeeza If you happen to be reading this we would like to thank you for really adding to our honeymoon you made it for us in so many ways.
