Traveler Reviews"Best restaurant on the coast"
Reviewed by Goosemombasa on Feb 10, 2011I have lived in Mombasa for over 20 years & have seen restaurants come and go. La Veranda offers the best food, best service & best value of any restaurant. I am surprised to see so few reviews to date as virtually all the Mombasa residents would agree with me that La veranda is the best overall restaurant in Mombasa
EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE
Reviewed by ASHMombasa on Sep 15, 2010Perfect location for business lunches on weekdays, they have a good menu, the owners can make you an off the menu pick depending on their stocks, we normally go in groups of 6-8 and if we want to have their off the menu specialities we let them know a few hours earlier and they have it ready for you.
They have a stuffed rabbit special , which is absolutely finger licking!! Also for home deliveries for big orders is offered so all you need to do is just ask the owners.
Good selection of wines and cheese.
excellent Tiramisu for dessert
good food & good prices
Reviewed by safaribird on May 28, 2010if only this place had a view ! ...however despite the lack of outlook this place remains a favourite. The food is consistently good and the prices are reasonable. The owners have certainly got a winning formula. Recommend the Frito Misto + make sure you try the Limoncello too- delicious.
Overshadowed by Nakumatt!
Reviewed by Tembofan on Feb 23, 2010We've passed by this restaurant so many times on our way to and from Nakumatt and to be honest it didn't look too special. In those days it was called something else which I can't recall. Since its re-birth as La Veranda, things have looked up - it looked a lot cleaner, had an extensive menu, and kerb appeal.
We booked a table for the evening - you get a choice of inside or on the veranda. The tables were laid with clean white table cloths, candles and sparkling glasswear and cutlery. First impression very good. Then the menu - what a choice. From Italian antepasta dishes to pizza to an array of meat and fish dishes. The special menu on the black board had more unusual meats which I passed by. The prices were reasonable. Drinks were what you would expect to pay in a local restaurant.
Service was excellent and the food came quickly, well presented and hot. We managed a scrummy peach melba for pud!
The restaurant doesn't offer complimentary transport but will call a taxi to take you home, should you want it. Its open over the lunch time period and again around 6.00 onwards for dinner.
I will definitely be going back again and it it equally good as the more expensive Robertos and Il Covo.
